Rental Assistance

Purpose: The Emergency Assistance Program can provide financial assistance if you are facing: An eviction, a utility cut-off, foreclosure relocation after an eviction, work-related expenses, such as vehicle repair, insurance, licenses, tools, apparel or transportation.

PG County Transitional Emergency Medical and Housing Assistance (TEMHA)

Purpose: Provides temporary cash assistance to disabled adults. Applicants and recipients of TEMHA must have a 3-month disability and must be unable to work. Recipients of TEMHA may also receive Medical Assistance and Food Stamps.

 

Utilities Assistance

 

Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)

Purpose: The Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) provides assistance with home heating bills. Payments are made to your utility company on your behalf. Under this program there is limited assistance available to replace broken or inefficient refrigerators and furnaces. Check the website for rules concerning eligibility.

 

Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) 
Purpose: The Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) protects low-income families from utility cut-offs and allows MEAP eligible households to enter into a year-round even monthly payment program with their utility company. An equal monthly payment plan based on the estimated cost of the customer's average annual utility usage minus the MEAP benefit will be used to determine the even monthly payments for participation in the USPP.

Electric Universal Service Program

Purpose: A statewide program that is administered by the Department of Human Resources to assist low-income electric customers with their electric bills. This assistance is available to you if you are an active customer or if you are currently without service. Eligible electric customers may receive help in three ways: help to pay current electric bills, help to pay past due electric bills that were owed before July 1, 2000 and help with energy efficiency measures to reduce future electric bills.

Weatherization Assistance Program

Purpose: The program helps eligible low-income households through the installation of energy conservation materials in their homes. These measures both reduce the consumption of energy and the cost of maintenance for these homes. Priority is given to homeowners who may be elderly, disabled, have families with children, and/or have the highest energy consumption. Eligible renters may apply and will be given due consideration in accordance with the Weatherization Assistance Program's Rental Property Investment Program.
